I realize the RIAA is tryingto shut down places like
and
because their "rights" are being violated. Let me tell you a bit abouttheir "rights":
1. WhenCDs first came out in the early 1980s, they were about $17. They are notmuch cheaper now even though we all know the costs to make them is dirtcheap. The manufacturing process is so cheap with today's computers, youcan create, mix, and burn your CD at home. Yet we are still supposed topay $17?
2. TheRIAA have been screwing the CD-buying public for years. In my opinion, their rights are the same as the cable companies. When they have you, theyscrew you. When you have an alternative, they complain. "We've got 100channels too now". Well screw you, it's too late. You could have givenme these channels years ago but had no competition. Now you have to havethe channels to compete and I'm supposed to care?
3. Whenthe used CD market was going strong, the RIAA complained that they shouldget a cut of all sales. Yeah right! Like Sears gets a cut when I sell myold washing machine. But the RIAA claim they make a product that can lastforever and they won't make enough money....we're all crying!
4. TheRIAA claim that they have to pay for all of the costs of not only makingthe CDs, but for studio time, the recording process, and the band themselves. Many bands will tell you they get almost nothing from the record sales. As for the studio time and recording process, I guess when they releasean old concert from a classic artist the price will be much lower...nope.Still $17....but it's been sitting on a shelf for 20 years! What am I payingfor now?
5. Itwasn't so long ago the RIAA was complaining that the bootleg market waskilling their sales. I'm not talking about pirate copies, they complainedthat a live Genesis bootleg would take away from the official Genesis LPsales. We know this cannot be true because the bootleg is more expensive, lesser quality, and very limited quantity. Well the MP3 technology haskilled the bootleg market. Almost no new bootlegs are being produced anymore. Will you hear the RIAA dancing in the street for MP3s?
6. CDsand DVDs will keep being released until we run out of money. Sales of Hendrixat Woodstock is low, let's add another track and release it again. GenesisCD sales are low, let's release the remastered version we should have soldthem before. Sold some copies of Boogie Nights...let's release the specialedition, then another one with extra scenes, now this one in Superbit, look for HD-DVD in a year or two. WHEN AM I DONE BUYING THESE??? Can'tI trade one of my old "I got screwed because I bought it early" copiesfor one of these new ones?
7. Whendid the concept of extra tracks come into play? Why is it I find out longafter I bought my copy of a CD that the Japanese market got an extra track? The German copy has two extra tracks! I paid $17 but I don't deserve tohear those extra tracks the artist recorded for that CD?
8. Andhow about the greatest hits CDs? Ever looked at the Jethro Tull collections? How many times can they repackage the same old tracks and resell it? Whenthey put on an extra track or two can they really charge me another $17for the same songs?
NEVER AGAIN!
