CompilationsHere are some compilationsthat include Genesis. These are extremely difficult to track as there isno good listing and many are in quite small numbers. I have only includedones from the 1970s.
Compilation albums used tobe very interesting in that they would release many unknown artists onone album so the listener can sample them and see if they like the newartists. At some point when Genesis got very popular, these compilationalbums turned into a profit making tool simply to sell records.
By 1980, there is no reasonto put Genesis on one of these, except to sell another copy of an alreadyreleased song. However, to see compilation albums from 1980 on, click here.
One interesting thing to noteis how many times From Genesis to Revelation tracks were used and how manyof the same artists end up on the compilations. I assume it must be basedupon the contracts and required royalties. Obviously, John King has therights to that first album and sells the songs over and over.
Another interesting thingis that these were used as promotional tools and were made available invery limited numbers. I am sure not all of them are official and the majorityof them use handwritten matrix numbers on the vinyl.
Any additional informationor scans as always, would be greatly appreciated.
